This post is the hardest one I have written for this website, and it is unfortunately, also it's last. I have recently been thinking, and have come to the decision that I will be closing The Gallifrey Vortex today, after having many long and difficult thoughts about it. As upset as I am about closing the website, I know that it is for the best, as I sadly no longer updating and enjoy other things more than blogging now. I set up The Gallifrey Vortex on January the 8th 2009, at the age of twelve, and over one year on, on May the 30th 2010, at the age of thirteen, the fun of writing posts has been lost. The website was a big part of my life, and I always made the effort to come online every day to update with the latest news, but recently I haven't updated as much, with many other Doctor Who websites being faster sources. But looking on the brighter side of things, I would like to thank every single visitor who made this website what it was, and I really appreciate what you did for it. I could not leave though without thanking someone very special hugely, who has helped me with this website, and the sites I have had before, because he has been a really great friend to me, and that person is Conor from Tardis Base. I recommend you visit his website as your new source for Doctor Who, as it is updated with many posts daily. Other people I would like to thank are: Rob, Meg, Mark, Axlart, Luke, Patar, Vortex, and many more. Vincent And The Doctor Next Time Trailer

Tonight's broadcast of Cold Blood was followed up by the usual trailer for the next episode of Doctor Who series five, Vincent and The Doctor. The episode will see The Doctor and Amy visit an art gallery where they discover a strange face in one of Van Gogh's paintings, causing them to travel back in time to Provence to discover what it is. The new trailer can be seen below:

Tonight sees the first broadcast of the ninth episode of Doctor Who series five, Cold Blood, in the United Kingdom. The BBC Press Office has released the official synopsis for the eleventh episode of Doctor Who series five, The Lodger. The episode will see The Doctor, as played by Matt Smith, move into a flat with a new character called Craig Owens, as played by James Corden, where something strange is going on at the top of the stairs. The official synopsis for this is below:

There’s a house on Aickman road, and a staircase that people go up, but never down, as the time-travelling drama continues. To solve the mystery of the man upstairs, the Doctor faces his greatest challenge yet – he must pass himself off as a perfectly normal human being, and share a flat with Craig Owens.

Series Five Wave One Action Figures Revealed

Character Options has today unveiled the first wave of brand new action figures from the fifth series of Doctor Who, which can be seen above. The new figures are five-inch, going to scale with the figures released across the past four years, and feature highly detailed and fully articulated new sculpts. The new wave features action figures of The Eleventh Doctor, coming with sonic screwdriver, Amy Pond, Hawthorne and a Winder with hidden Smiler face from The Beast Below, Professor Bracewell with swappable arm and chest reveal, and a Khaki Ironside Dalek and Red Dalek from Victory of the Daleks, and a Weeping Angel from The Time of Angels. All figures will go on sale in the United Kingdom on the twenty-sixth of July, being sold at the recommended retail price of £8.99 for one.

SFX Interviews Chris Chibnall On Silurians

The science fiction and fantasy magazine, SFX, have now published an interview with Chris Chibnall, writer of The Hungry Earth and this Saturday's Cold Blood, to their official website. In which, Chris discusses bringing back the Silurians to Doctor Who, and what their next move will be in the next episode of series five, Cold Blood. Part of SFX's new interview can be read below:

Part one of the story was quite small scale. Will it get bigger in part two?
The second half is totally different to the first half. We always talked about that as a big split between the two episodes, that you’d start with quite a small canvas and then you would broaden and broaden and broaden, so as the characters in the stories realise how much more there is, you’re going on that journey with them as a viewer. In part two you’ll see a lot of the Silurian city, you’ll see more Silurian characters, you’ll see more warriors. A lot of that second episode takes place underground.

Doctor Who And Spin-Offs BAFTA Cymru Win

Doctor Who and it's spin-offs, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, came out victorious on Monday at the BAFTA Cymru awards, hosted at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff. What BBC News called 'a night of success' saw producer of Torchwood: Children of Earth, Peter Bennett, pick up the award of 'Best Drama Series' for the show, while it's editor, Will Oswald, was given the 'Best Editor' award. Doctor Who was given two new awards at the Welsh BAFTAs, Best Design and Best Make-Up, while The Sarah Jane Adventures was awarded the 'Best Interactive' award. Congratulations from The Gallifrey Vortex goes to all three of the shows!

Amy's Choice Final Ratings

BARB have now revealed the final and official ratings for Amy's Choice, the seventh episode of Doctor Who series five. The episode which saw The Doctor, Amy, and Rory being made to play part in the Dream Lord's games, was watched by 7.06 million on BBC One. A further 0.49 watched it in high definition on BBC HD, bringing the final ratings for Amy's Choice to 7.5 million, a good increase of over one million on the overnight figures of 6.2 million. The final ratings for last Saturday's episode, The Hungry Earth, will be released early next week, and will then be posted here, as will other final ratings. Doctor Who Magazine #422 Cover Revealed

The official Facebook group for Doctor Who Magazine today revealed the cover for it's four-hundred-and-twenty-second issue, which can be seen above (click to enlarge). This issue will preview Vincent and The Doctor, The Lodger, The Pandorica Opens, and The Big Bang, and will also take a look at what's still to come in the Human's battle against the Silurians, Cold Blood. The magazine will also include an interview with James Corden who will be appearing as a new friend of The Doctor's in episode eleven, The Lodger, and will give readers a chance to win Series Five Volume One on DVD. The Hungry Earth Overnight Ratings

BARB have now released the overnight ratings for the eighth episode of Doctor Who series five, The Hungry Earth. According to these overnight figures, the episode received lower than usual ratings of 4.2 million, around two million lower than the average overnight ratings which range at around six million. This was likely due to the warm weather across the United Kingdom and Ireland. The show gained 32.2% of the audience share, making it the fifth most watched programme of the day. Series Five Episode Thirteen Title Revealed

The BBC have today revealed the title for the thirteenth and final episode of Doctor Who's fifth series, after the recent announcement of the title for the twelfth. The episode has been confirmed as 'The Big Bang', which was a title rumoured for the episode for quite some time, but no official confirmation came until now. The Big Bang, which is written by Steven Moffat, features the latest come backs of both the Cybermen and Professor River Song, and the conclusion of the unfolding crack story arc. Series Five Episode Twelve Title Revealed

The BAFTA website recently revealed the title for the twelfth episode of Doctor Who series five. The title was confirmed as 'The Pandorica Opens', which has been rumoured as the title for quite a while, in a report announcing a special screening of the episode next month. An unofficial synopsis which was featured alongside the report on the event can be read below:

A little girl called out for help about a crack in her bedroom wall and the Doctor answered. But now the cracks in time threaten the whole universe, silence is falling and the Pandorica opening. Can the Doctor and his feisty Scottish companion Amy Pond save the day?

The episode is the first of a two-parter and will feature The Doctor and Amy, alongside returning friend, Professor River Song, and returning enemies, the Cybermen. Doctor Who Stage Show Coming This Autumn

Today, it has been announced that a brand new Doctor Who stage show called 'Doctor Who Live' will be touring the United Kingdom and Ireland this Autumn. It will feature a specially written script by Steven Moffat featuring the Daleks, Cyberman, and Weeping Angels, and although not performing in the show, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan will be showed as The Doctor and Amy Pond in clips. The show will be on tour, travelling to various citys with a live orchestra, for thirty-three days only, and a full list of it's venues along with dates can be read below:

BARB have today released the overnight ratings for the seventh episode of Doctor Who series five, Amy's Choice, which received it's first broadcast last night. The episode was watched by 5.85 million on BBC One, according to the ratings, with an additional 0.34 million watching over on the BBC HD channel. This brings the overnight ratings to 6.2 million and gives it 33% of the audience share, making it the second most watched programme of the day, yet again being beaten by Britain's Got Talent on ITV One. BARB have today revealed the official and final ratings for the fifth episode of Doctor Who series five, Flesh and Stone. The episode was watched by 8.02 million on BBC One, according to the viewing figures, with an additional 0.48 million watching over on BBC HD. This brings the final ratings to 8.5 million, a big increase on the 6.9 million it achieved in the overnight ratings. BARB have now released the overnight ratings for the sixth Doctor Who series five episode, The Vampires of Venice. The episode, which saw The Doctor and Amy Pond take Rory Williams for a travel to sixteenth century Venice, where they encountered the vampire-like Saturnynian, managed to pull in 5.9 million viewers when broadcast on BBC One. An additional 0.2 million watched it in high definition over on BBC HD, bringing the total count to 6.2 million viewers. This episode got 30.6% of the audience share, and was the second most watched programme of the day, again being beaten to first by Britain's Got Talent, a recurring theme. Official ratings to come.

The Time Of Angels Final Ratings

Official ratings for the fourth Doctor Who series five episode, The Time of Angels, have now been released by BARB. The ratings show that the episode managed to achieve 8.13 million views on BBC One, with an additional 0.461 million watching on BBC HD, bringing the total number of viewers to 8.6 million. This in an increase of almost two million on the ratings released by BARB the day after The Time of Angels was first aired which were 6.8 million. The overnight ratings for The Vampires of Venice will be released on Sunday, and the final ratings for Flesh and Stone will be added by BARB during next week, and will both be posted here some time after.

Flesh And Stone Overnight Ratings

BARB, the Broadcasting Audience Research Board, have today released the overnight ratings for the fifth episode of Doctor Who series five, Flesh and Stone. According to the ratings, the episode managed to pull in 6.53 million viewers when broadcast on BBC One, with an additional 0.34 million viewers watching over on the BBC HD channel, bringing the overnight rating count to 6.9 million. This gives it 34% of the audience share, but it should be noted that the overnight ratings are not final, and that the accurate ratings will be released by BARB in a few days time. In addition to the overnight ratings, high amounts of praise for this episode has come from the press, with The Guardian calling it ‘the greatest episode of Doctor Who there has ever been'. BARB have now released the final ratings for the third episode of Doctor Who series five, Victory of the Daleks. The ratings show that the episode managed to achieve 7.82 million viewers when it was broadcast on BBC One earlier this month, with an additional 381,000 watching over on the BBC HD channel. This brings the final ratings to 8.2 million, an increase of 1.8 million on the overnight ratings of 6.4 million. BBC Apologise For Doctor Who Interruption

The BBC have today apologised for an advertisement shown during the first transmission of Doctor Who series five episode four, The Time of Angels, last night. During the cliff-hanger of BBC One's broadcast of the episode, a banner, accompanied by a small cartoon character of Graham Norton, popped up on screen to advertise the talent show, Over the Rainbow. Many people thought this was inappropriate and complained to the BBC, resulting in the broadcasting company to apologise today. Fans have also been complaining on social networking site Twitter, with one writing: "Why is the BBC treating its audience like idiots?" and another saying "Don't blink or Graham Norton will catch you."An apology from the British Broadcasting Company can be read by clicking here. The Adventure Games: City Of The Daleks

The BBC have announced the title and some details for the first installment of the upcoming Doctor Who: Adventure Games, coming soon to download for PC and Mac. The first episode is called City of the Daleks, and as the title suggests, will allow players, as The Doctor and Amy Pond, to go to the Dalek city on the Dalek's home planet, Skaro. The TARDIS materializes in 1963 - and London is in ruins. The Daleks have seized control of time and the only chance of saving Earth lies in a desperate quest to Skaro, the Daleks' home planet - before time catches up with Amy, the last survivor of the human race!

Players will help the Doctor and Amy on an epic new adventure in an original story which forms part of the current series, traversing time and space in a dazzling episode. Nicholas Briggs provides the voice of the Daleks, alongside Matt Smith and Karen Gillan who recreate their roles as the Doctor and Amy.

"This is quite a series opener," says The Waters of Mars co~writer Phil Ford. "We destroy London even before the credits role - so you can only begin to imagine where we travel to from there. Karen Gillan, who is currently starring as The Doctor's companion, Amy Pond, in the fifth series of Doctor Who, has spoken to SpinOff Online about the unfolding series five story arc. The actress speaks about the mysterious cracks that have appeared the series so far, and explains that Amy Pond is central to the story arc. An interview extract can be read below:

“Amy is absolutely pivotal to the whole storyline of the series, so that’s exciting. And we’re given little clues throughout each episode, so you have to watch each episode a few times, I think, to pick everything up. You start to realise more and more just how important she is throughout the series, so it’s really interesting.”

FOX Cancel American Torchwood Broadcast

BBC Worldwide has announced that American broadcasting network, FOX, have dropped plans to transmit the U.S Torchwood series announced earlier this year. Speaking in a statement, BBC Worldwide said: “BBC Worldwide Productions and the FOX Broadcasting Company have mutually agreed not to progress together with a thirteen episode serialized 'Torchwood' format. We are currently in discussion with several interested networks." The American Torchwood series, which will feature the writing of previous Doctor Who lead writer, Russell T Davies, is still set to be produced, with the show's producer, Jane Tranter, saying: "It's very much ongoing and very much alive”. It is unknown if the new series will be the fourth series of the current, or a completely brand new American spin-off series.

The BBC Press Office have today revealed the official synopsis for the sixth episode of Doctor Who's fifth series, entitled Vampires in Venice. The episode will see The Doctor and Amy Pond take another trip back through time in the Tardis, this time with Rory to Venice, where some people are not what they seem to be. The BBC have today revealed that The Eleventh Doctor, as played by Matt Smith, will be making an appearance in the fourth series of children's Doctor Who spin-off show, The Sarah Jane Adventures, later this year. Matt Smith will be joined by Katy Manning in two episodes of the series, who will be reprising her role as former companion of The Third Doctor, Jo Grant.

Executive producer, Nikki Wilson, had this to say: "Viewers are in for a real treat, with an action-packed story full of Russell's usual wit and warmth, which takes the gang inside a secret base beneath Snowdon and introduces brand-new vulture aliens, the mysterious Shansheeth. The ratings reveal that the episode, which got overnight ratings of 6.7 million viewers, managed to pull in 7.928 million viewers when broadcast on BBC One on the tenth of March, with a further 0.494 people watching over on the BBC HD channel, bringing the final viewer count to 8.4 million. The first episode of the series, The Eleventh Hour, attracted 10.08 million viewers earlier this month. Victory Of The Daleks Overnight Ratings

Doctor Who continued last night with Victory of the Daleks, and BARB have now released overnight ratings for the episode. According to the overnight ratings, the third episode of Doctor Who series five was watched by 6.2 million when it was broadcast on BBC One, with an additional 231,000 watching later over on the BBC HD channel. These ratings make Victory of the Daleks the second most watched programme of Saturday, giving it 32.7% of the audience share, being beaten to first place by Britain's Got Talent over on ITV One which gained 10.6 million. Overnight ratings are not final or accurate, and the official ratings will be announced by BARB in several weeks.

Tonight, the fifth series of Doctor Who will continue with it's third episode, Victory of the Daleks. The episode will see the Daleks return to Earth during World War Two, where they are seemingly working as soldiers for the British army, but The Doctor knows that as always with the Daleks, all is not what it seems, and a brand new generation of Daleks rise. Victory Of The Daleks Mark Gatiss Interview

SFX recently interviewed Mark Gatiss, the writer of this Saturday's episode of Doctor Who, Victory of the Daleks. Mark Gatiss previously wrote the series one Doctor Who episode, The Unquiet Dead, and the series two episode, The Idiot's Lantern, and appeared in the series three episode, The Lazarus Experiment. An extract from his SFX interview can be read below:

“I was initially intimidated by the thought of doing the Daleks after all these years, but then I suppose I’ve always had an idea of what I’d like to do with them. They are, weirdly, an inherently World War II feeling creature. The Nazi connection is there, and also the world of the early ’60s is very heavily post-War – they feel like they belong to it. There’s a nice match to it.”

Mark Gatiss has also revealed that as well as writing the episode, he will be appearing as a Spitfire pilot when it is broadcast on BBC One on Saturday at 6:30pm and at 8:25pm on BBC HD. Last night, the fifth series of Doctor Who continued with it's second episode, The Beast Below. The episode, despite facing the hot weather outside across the United Kingdom and Ireland, strong opposition from television premieres and the football on other channels, managed to attract 6.4 million on BBC One, with a further 330,000 watching on the BBC HD channel. This brings the overall overnight ratings to 6.7 million, and gives Doctor Who 34% of the audience share, making it the most watched programme of the day. These overnight ratings are not completely accurate, and BARB will release the official ratings in a few weeks time, which will be posted here shortly after. Next week Doctor Who will face strong opposition again, with Britain's Got Talent returning on ITV One, but hopefully the return of the Daleks will give Doctor Who higher ratings. More will be posted.

Doctor Who First Series Five Novels Covers

BBC Books have now revealed the covers for the next three Doctor Who novels, set for release later this month in time for the fifth series of Doctor Who. The books, Apollo 23 by Justin Richards, Night of the Humans by David Llewellnyn, and The Forgotten Army by Brian Minchinm, are the first to feature The Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond who are being played by Matt Smith and Karen Gillan in the series. Doctor Who Brand New Series Five Stand-Ups

A new wave of Doctor Who stand-ups, consisting of life-size cardboard characters from the fifth series of the show, has been announced for release this month. The new cutouts are of The Eleventh Doctor, played by Matt Smith, in his tweed jacket and with sonic screwdriver, his companion, Amy Pond, the newly designed TARDIS exterior, and a double cutout of both The Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond. All four of the cutouts will be made available to buy at various shops across the United Kingdom and Ireland lreland at some point later this month, being sold at a recommended retail price of £29.99 each. Elisabeth Sladen: The Autobiography Cover

Last year it was announced that Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures star, Elisabeth Sladen, was writing her autobiography to be published by Aurum Press. The book will document her life from the begining, to her appearence as Sarah Jane Smith in Doctor Who in the 1970's, and up to her life now. The book's cover has now been revealed, and can be seen to the left, and it's official synopsis can be read below:

The fifth series of Doctor Who is now in transmission, and BBC One has today began airing the first trailer for the second episode of the series, The Beast Below. The new trailer includes new clips of The Doctor, as played by Matt Smith, and Amy Pond, as played by Karen Gillan, with the Smilers also featuring. Doctor Who Series Five Opening Titles

Last night saw the first transmission of the first episode of Doctor Who series five, The Eleventh Hour. The episode features a change of opening titles for the series, which sees the TARDIS hurtle through a vortex, being hit by lightning, while the brand new Doctor Who theme song plays. The new opening titles for the fifth series of Doctor Who can be seen below:

The Eleventh Hour Overnight Ratings

Doctor Who finally returned to our television screens last night with hour long opening episode, The Eleventh Hour, introducing us to The Eleventh Doctor, Amy Pond, Prisoner Zero and the ruthless Atraxi. Overnight ratings for the episode have now been released by BARB, and reveal that at least 7.7 million watched the first episode on BBC One, with another 0.3 million watching on the BBC HD channel, giving it a whole overnight rating of 8 million. The overnight ratings are not accurate, and the official ratings will be released by BARB in a few weeks, and will be posted here, on The Gallifrey Vortex. Today, the fourth of April, is Easter Sunday, an international holiday celebrating new born life, and celebrating what Christians believe happened to Jesus Christ more than two thousand year ago.
