The 20th of July 2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing, which saw Neil Armstrong land and walk on Earth's moon. To celebrate the anniversary of the event, the BBC's official website for Doctor Who is launching a new short story written by Oli Smith, entitled Blue Moon. When asked about the new Doctor Who short story, Oli Smith had this to say:
'I didn't want the Doctor to take anything away from the achievements of the Apollo mission, but rather to prevent outside influences, both extra terrestrial and closer to home, from manipulating events for their own ends.'
Blue Moon will be published in four parts on the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 20th of July on the BBC's official website for Doctor Who which can be visited by clicking here. Along with the new short story, the official website will include many moon related features such as a look at the appearances of the moon in Doctor Who.
