The End Of The Gallifrey Vortex, Thankyou

This post is the hardest one I have written for this website, and it is unfortunately, also it's last. I have recently been thinking, and have come to the decision that I will be closing The Gallifrey Vortex today, after having many long and difficult thoughts about it. As upset as I am about closing the website, I know that it is for the best, as I sadly no longer updating and enjoy other things more than blogging now. I set up The Gallifrey Vortex on January the 8th 2009, at the age of twelve, and over one year on, on May the 30th 2010, at the age of thirteen, the fun of writing posts has been lost. The website was a big part of my life, and I always made the effort to come online every day to update with the latest news, but recently I haven't updated as much, with many other Doctor Who websites being faster sources. But looking on the brighter side of things, I would like to thank every single visitor who made this website what it was, and I really appreciate what you did for it. I could not leave though without thanking someone very special hugely, who has helped me with this website, and the sites I have had before, because he has been a really great friend to me, and that person is Conor from Tardis Base. I recommend you visit his website as your new source for Doctor Who, as it is updated with many posts daily. Other people I would like to thank are: Rob, Meg, Mark, Axlart, Luke, Patar, Vortex, and many more. This is now the end, so I would again, like to thank everyone who has visited, and hope to speak to you all in the near future.

Vincent And The Doctor Next Time Trailer

Tonight's broadcast of Cold Blood was followed up by the usual trailer for the next episode of Doctor Who series five, Vincent and The Doctor. The episode will see The Doctor and Amy visit an art gallery where they discover a strange face in one of Van Gogh's paintings, causing them to travel back in time to Provence to discover what it is. The new trailer can be seen below:

Vincent and The Doctor will be broadcast on BBC One and on the BBC HD channel next Saturday at 6.40pm. Doctor Who Continues In Cold Blood Tonight

Tonight sees the first broadcast of the ninth episode of Doctor Who series five, Cold Blood, in the United Kingdom. Continuing from last week, the episode will see the Silurians begin their plans to wipe Humanity from the Earth and claim it back for themselves, while The Doctor and Nasreen find themselves in the underground Silurian city. The episode stars Matt Smith as The Eleventh Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams. Cold Blood will be broadcast at 7.00pm on BBC One and on BBC HD, running for fifty minutes, and being followed by Doctor Who Confidential on BBC Three. The Lodger Official Synopsis

The BBC Press Office has released the official synopsis for the eleventh episode of Doctor Who series five, The Lodger. The episode will see The Doctor, as played by Matt Smith, move into a flat with a new character called Craig Owens, as played by James Corden, where something strange is going on at the top of the stairs. The official synopsis for this is below:

There’s a house on Aickman road, and a staircase that people go up, but never down, as the time-travelling drama continues. To solve the mystery of the man upstairs, the Doctor faces his greatest challenge yet – he must pass himself off as a perfectly normal human being, and share a flat with Craig Owens.

The Lodger will be broadcast on BBC One and on the BBC HD channel on Saturday the twelfth of June at 6.45pm, and the latest news regarding it will be posted here when it is made available. What do you think of this new synopsis?

Series Five Wave One Action Figures Revealed

Character Options has today unveiled the first wave of brand new action figures from the fifth series of Doctor Who, which can be seen above. The new figures are five-inch, going to scale with the figures released across the past four years, and feature highly detailed and fully articulated new sculpts. The new wave features action figures of The Eleventh Doctor, coming with sonic screwdriver, Amy Pond, Hawthorne and a Winder with hidden Smiler face from The Beast Below, Professor Bracewell with swappable arm and chest reveal, and a Khaki Ironside Dalek and Red Dalek from Victory of the Daleks, and a Weeping Angel from The Time of Angels. All figures will go on sale in the United Kingdom on the twenty-sixth of July, being sold at the recommended retail price of £8.99 for one.

SFX Interviews Chris Chibnall On Silurians

The science fiction and fantasy magazine, SFX, have now published an interview with Chris Chibnall, writer of The Hungry Earth and this Saturday's Cold Blood, to their official website. In which, Chris discusses bringing back the Silurians to Doctor Who, and what their next move will be in the next episode of series five, Cold Blood. Part of SFX's new interview can be read below:

Part one of the story was quite small scale. Will it get bigger in part two?
The second half is totally different to the first half. We always talked about that as a big split between the two episodes, that you’d start with quite a small canvas and then you would broaden and broaden and broaden, so as the characters in the stories realise how much more there is, you’re going on that journey with them as a viewer. In part two you’ll see a lot of the Silurian city, you’ll see more Silurian characters, you’ll see more warriors. A lot of that second episode takes place underground.

Doctor Who And Spin-Offs BAFTA Cymru Win

Doctor Who and it's spin-offs, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, came out victorious on Monday at the BAFTA Cymru awards, hosted at the Millennium Centre in Cardiff. What BBC News called 'a night of success' saw producer of Torchwood: Children of Earth, Peter Bennett, pick up the award of 'Best Drama Series' for the show, while it's editor, Will Oswald, was given the 'Best Editor' award. Doctor Who was given two new awards at the Welsh BAFTAs, Best Design and Best Make-Up, while The Sarah Jane Adventures was awarded the 'Best Interactive' award. Congratulations from The Gallifrey Vortex goes to all three of the shows!

Amy's Choice Final Ratings

BARB have now revealed the final and official ratings for Amy's Choice, the seventh episode of Doctor Who series five. The episode which saw The Doctor, Amy, and Rory being made to play part in the Dream Lord's games, was watched by 7.06 million on BBC One. A further 0.49 watched it in high definition on BBC HD, bringing the final ratings for Amy's Choice to 7.5 million, a good increase of over one million on the overnight figures of 6.2 million. The final ratings for last Saturday's episode, The Hungry Earth, will be released early next week, and will then be posted here, as will other final ratings. Doctor Who Magazine #422 Cover Revealed

The official Facebook group for Doctor Who Magazine today revealed the cover for it's four-hundred-and-twenty-second issue, which can be seen above (click to enlarge). This issue will preview Vincent and The Doctor, The Lodger, The Pandorica Opens, and The Big Bang, and will also take a look at what's still to come in the Human's battle against the Silurians, Cold Blood. The magazine will also include an interview with James Corden who will be appearing as a new friend of The Doctor's in episode eleven, The Lodger, and will give readers a chance to win Series Five Volume One on DVD. That, along with much more exclusive content, will be inside the next issue of Doctor Who Magazine, which will be released across the United Kingdom and Ireland this Thursday, for £4.20.

The Hungry Earth Overnight Ratings

BARB have now released the overnight ratings for the eighth episode of Doctor Who series five, The Hungry Earth. According to these overnight figures, the episode received lower than usual ratings of 4.2 million, around two million lower than the average overnight ratings which range at around six million. This was likely due to the warm weather across the United Kingdom and Ireland. The show gained 32.2% of the audience share, making it the fifth most watched programme of the day. Please not that these ratings are not accurate, and that the final ratings will be released by BARB in several days. What do you think of these overnight ratings?

Doctor Who Cold Blood Next Time Trailer

Tonight's broadcast of The Hungry Earth was followed up by a next time trailer for the next episode of the series and the second part of the new Silurian story, Cold Blood. Vincent And The Doctor Official Synopsis

The BBC Press Office has today released the official synopsis for the tenth episode of Doctor Who series five, Vincent and the Doctor. The episode, written by Richard Curtis, will see The Doctor and Amy travel to Provence, where they meet the famous painter, Vincent Van Gogh, and encounter a vicous alien enemy. The synopsis for this story can be read below:

Terror lurks in the cornfields of Provence, but only a sad and lonely painter can see it, as the time-travelling drama continues with an episode written by Richard Curtis. Amy Pond finds herself shoulder to shoulder with Vincent Van Gogh, in a battle with a deadly alien.

Series Five Episode Thirteen Title Revealed

The BBC have today revealed the title for the thirteenth and final episode of Doctor Who's fifth series, after the recent announcement of the title for the twelfth. The episode has been confirmed as 'The Big Bang', which was a title rumoured for the episode for quite some time, but no official confirmation came until now. The Big Bang, which is written by Steven Moffat, features the latest come backs of both the Cybermen and Professor River Song, and the conclusion of the unfolding crack story arc. It will receive it's broadcast on BBC One and on BBC HD on June the twenty-sixth, and you can expect to see the latest news regarding it here soon.

Series Five Episode Twelve Title Revealed

The BAFTA website recently revealed the title for the twelfth episode of Doctor Who series five. The title was confirmed as 'The Pandorica Opens', which has been rumoured as the title for quite a while, in a report announcing a special screening of the episode next month. An unofficial synopsis which was featured alongside the report on the event can be read below:

A little girl called out for help about a crack in her bedroom wall and the Doctor answered. But now the cracks in time threaten the whole universe, silence is falling and the Pandorica opening. Can the Doctor and his feisty Scottish companion Amy Pond save the day?

The episode is the first of a two-parter and will feature The Doctor and Amy, alongside returning friend, Professor River Song, and returning enemies, the Cybermen. It will be broadcast on Saturday the nineteenth of June, and more information will be posted when available. What are your thoughts on this title?

The Vampires Of Venice Final Ratings

BARB have now released the final ratings for the sixth episode of Doctor Who series five, The Vampires of Venice, which was broadcast on BBC One and on BBC HD earlier this month. These ratings show that the episode was watched by 7.3 million people on BBC One, with a further 0.4 million on the BBC HD channel. This makes the official and final ratings 7.7 million, an increase of over one million on the overnight figures of 6.2 million. The final ratings for last Saturday's Doctor Who episode, Amy's Choice, will be released early next week, and will then be posted here, on The Gallifrey Vortex. Doctor Who Stage Show Coming This Autumn

Today, it has been announced that a brand new Doctor Who stage show called 'Doctor Who Live' will be touring the United Kingdom and Ireland this Autumn. It will feature a specially written script by Steven Moffat featuring the Daleks, Cyberman, and Weeping Angels, and although not performing in the show, Matt Smith and Karen Gillan will be showed as The Doctor and Amy Pond in clips. The show will be on tour, travelling to various citys with a live orchestra, for thirty-three days only, and a full list of it's venues along with dates can be read below:

Amy's Choice Overnight Ratings

BARB have today released the overnight ratings for the seventh episode of Doctor Who series five, Amy's Choice, which received it's first broadcast last night. The episode was watched by 5.85 million on BBC One, according to the ratings, with an additional 0.34 million watching over on the BBC HD channel. This brings the overnight ratings to 6.2 million and gives it 33% of the audience share, making it the second most watched programme of the day, yet again being beaten by Britain's Got Talent on ITV One. Series Five Episode Ten And Eleven Titles

The official Doctor Who website has now been updated with the titles for the tenth and eleventh episodes of Doctor Who's fifth series, currently airing in the United Kingdom and in America. The tenth episode, written by Richard Curtis, which will see The Doctor and Amy meet Van Gogh, has been revealed as Vincent and The Doctor. The eleventh episode, written by Gareth Roberts, which will see The Doctor land on Earth and live a life with a new character played by James Corden, has been revealed as The Lodger. The episodes will be broadcast on BBC One and on BBC HD next month, and the titles for episode twelve and thirteen will be released shortly, and then posted here. Doctor Who Series Five Flight Control TARDIS

Character Options have now revealed the second addition to their new series five range of Doctor Who toys, the Flight Control TARDIS. The TARDIS reacts to movement with sound and light effects, and is scaled to go alongside Character's Doctor Who action figures, which will feature new series five additions later this year. It includes a flashing TARDIS Lantern, opening front doors and telephone door, and features many changes in appearance since the original flight control TARDIS in 2007. It is expected to be released in early June, being sold at a recommended retail price of £14.99. Will you be purchasing this?

Cold Blood Official Synopsis

Flesh And Stone Final Ratings

BARB have today revealed the official and final ratings for the fifth episode of Doctor Who series five, Flesh and Stone. The episode was watched by 8.02 million on BBC One, according to the viewing figures, with an additional 0.48 million watching over on BBC HD. This brings the final ratings to 8.5 million, a big increase on the 6.9 million it achieved in the overnight ratings. The final ratings for the following episode of the series, The Vampires of Venice, which was aired on Saturday, will be released by BARB next week, and will then be posted here. The Vampires Of Venice Overnight Ratings

BARB have now released the overnight ratings for the sixth Doctor Who series five episode, The Vampires of Venice. The episode, which saw The Doctor and Amy Pond take Rory Williams for a travel to sixteenth century Venice, where they encountered the vampire-like Saturnynian, managed to pull in 5.9 million viewers when broadcast on BBC One. An additional 0.2 million watched it in high definition over on BBC HD, bringing the total count to 6.2 million viewers. This episode got 30.6% of the audience share, and was the second most watched programme of the day, again being beaten to first by Britain's Got Talent, a recurring theme. Official ratings to come.

Tonight's first transmission of The Vampires of Venice was followed up by the next time trailer for the seventh episode of the series, Amy's Choice. The trailer includes clips of The Doctor, Amy, and Rory, trapped inside the mysterious world created by the Dream Lord, while their sleeping selves lie in the TARDIS hurtling towards a star. Doctor Who The Vampires Of Venice Tonight

Tonight, the new series of Doctor will continue with it's sixth episode, in which The Doctor take Amy Pond and Rory Williams for a romantic break in sixteenth century Venice, where all is not what it seems. The episode, entitled The Vampires of Venice, will see The Doctor, Amy, and Rory, discover vampire-like creatures rip Humans to shredded blood drained corpses, and encounter something hiding in the waters of the canal. The episode will be broadcast on BBC One and on the BBC HD channel tonight at 6.00pm, and will be followed by Doctor Who Confidential over on BBC Three. The Hungry Earth Official Synopsis

The BBC Press Office has today released the official synopsis for the eighth episode of Doctor Who series five, The Hungry Earth. The episode will see the long anticipated return of the classic series enemies, The Silurians, who battled the third and fifth Doctors, and are now watching over the Humans drilling to centre of the Earth. The episode's synopsis can be read below:

It’s 2015 and the most ambitious drilling project in history has reached deeper beneath the Earth’s crust than man has ever gone before – but now the ground itself is fighting back. In the latest episode of the time-travelling drama, written by Chris Chibnall, the Doctor, Amy and Rory arrive in a tiny mining village and find themselves plunged into a battle against a danger from a bygone age.

The Hungry Earth will be broadcast on BBC One and on the BBC HD channel on Saturday the twenty-second of May at 6.15pm, and will be followed by it's accompanying Doctor Who Confidential on BBC Three. What do you think of this?

Go Inside The Dalek Ship And Byzantium

The official Doctor Who website is now allowing visitors to explore both The Dalek spaceship from Victory of the Daleks and the Byzantium from The Time of Angels and Flesh and Stone. The way you can look around the ships is by a new 3D panoramic feature the BBC is using, which allows you to look for three-hundred-and-sixty degrees and discover hidden new desktop wallpapers, clips, and much more. The Time Of Angels Final Ratings

Official ratings for the fourth Doctor Who series five episode, The Time of Angels, have now been released by BARB. The ratings show that the episode managed to achieve 8.13 million views on BBC One, with an additional 0.461 million watching on BBC HD, bringing the total number of viewers to 8.6 million. This in an increase of almost two million on the ratings released by BARB the day after The Time of Angels was first aired which were 6.8 million. The overnight ratings for The Vampires of Venice will be released on Sunday, and the final ratings for Flesh and Stone will be added by BARB during next week, and will both be posted here some time after.
